Why I Don't Need Flowers, Cards or Dinners on the "Day" of Love

This year I will probably not get any flowers, a card or a special dinner from my husband. He probably wouldn't even know it was Valentines Day, except for the fact that I baked a Red Velvet Cake, spaghetti and meatballs w/pasta, red sauce with ground beef, and Alfredo Sauce in case he's in the mood for white sauce. He probably wouldn't remember that every year I have a tradition of getting everyone to write down at least 1 thing that they like or love about each member of the family, so we can read it and be blessed by each other at the dinner table. This year my husband will probably spend a large part of the evening at the soccer field with our soccer playing teen instead of doting on me, romancing me.  And this year, there will be no disappointment in Valentines Day.

You see, my husband teases a lot saying, "I don't need a special holiday to show you love because every day is Valentines day with me!"  But in seriousness, he's exactly right.  He shows me love every. single .day. He shows me love by digging up the back yard by hand, with a hurt back so he can fix our plumbing.  Or when he spends hours of his free time laying down these tiles in the bathroom so I can have a nice, carpet-free bathroom.  He showed me love when he took his bonus check, and instead of selfishly spending it on himself (like I know of sooooo many men doing), he a refrigerator because ours broke down.  He was dripping with romance when he recently went out and bought me a dishwasher because ours was almost broken down and I declared rather dramatically, "I can live without a stove before I can live without a dishwasher!"

This man of mine...he's beyond anything that I ever expected. He has more patience and forgiveness with me, than what he should have to.  How many times has he forgiven me? 70 times 7?  That's not a drop in the bucket.

Oh, and there is nothing sexier than a husband who is going to college, has 7 kids, pastor's and works full time, AND goes to the soccer fields with his teen son on Valentines Day. I couldn't possibly be disappointed in today...my heart is bursting with love for this man because of how he loves me 365 days a year.

This is a truly beautiful post and what a demonstration of love and appreciation and understanding you have for each other. It's so lovely.
Thank you for your encouraging comments on my blog. It was a delight to hear from you and a comfort to know that you will pray for my son. I hope you will continue to homeschool your children - you will all have so much to learn from each other.
Bless you and thank you.
